frii.site shutting down

Hello dear frii.site users, due to rising operational costs, I must shut down frii.site. If we sum everything up, I'm down around 100 € per year, which is not a small amount of money, especially for a project that doesn't really have a reason to exist.

Timeline

• Account registration will close on the 25th of June 2026
• The frii.site Ko-fi store will be closed on the 25th of June 2026
• Your domains will stop working on the 25th of August 2026
• The "frii.site" domain will expire on the 26th of February 2027
• The rest of the domains (e.g. srvr.be, pill.ovh, arr.ovh) will free up sometime at some point in 2027

How to move away from frii.site

We will introduce a few tools to make the migration as painless as possible for our users.

There are countless excellent free subdomain registrars out there, here are some we recommend:

• https://nic.eu.org/ (may not be accepting new domains)
• https://domain.digitalplat.org/
• https://is-a.dev/

FAQ

Can I somehow help?: No, but thanks for offering help

Why now?: No summer job

How will my data be handled?: We will store your account data for the next 2 years in case we can figure out a way to reduce costs. If you wish to delete your data, please contact us at support@frii.site, or me personally through Discord: @ctih

Can I self host frii.site with my own domain?: Yes, you can! Both the backend and frontend are open source. Beware that this will require some slight code changes. If you want help, join our Discord server, I'll try to respond: https://discord.gg/FjujyhvbMY
